Day 4 sees McConnell win debate, hit five more counties

U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell won another debate with Bruce Lunsford at Kentucky Dam Village before stopping in Crittenden, Caldwell, Trigg, Christian, and Butler Counties on his statewide bus tour.  McConnell was joined by local officials at each stop who attested to McConnell’s leadership and ability to deliver for Kentucky.

At the debate, Lunsford notably declared his opposition to clean, safe nuclear power as a part of a comprehensive approach to achieve energy independence while McConnell said he supported it.  McConnell has been a tireless champion for the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant, one of the region’s biggest employers, and firmly supports a comprehensive energy strategy to eliminate our nation’s dependence on foreign oil.

Lunsford also affirmed that he opposed terrorist surveillance legislation supported by an overwhelming bipartisan majority in Congress, including both presidential candidates.  Time and again during the debate, Lunsford showed he was out of touch with the values of most Kentuckians.

Crittenden County Judge Executive Fred Brown summed up McConnell’s ability to do more for Kentucky during a rally in Marion.

“There's not a major project in this community that doesn't have Senator McConnell’s fingerprints on it...and we are thankful for his leadership,” Brown said.  McConnell has secured over $1 million in critical funding for Crittenden County projects.

In Hopkinsville, state senate Candidate Tom Jones, a retired Lieutenant Colonel, touted McConnell’s ability to deliver for military families and communities.

“This is a critical time for our country. We need leaders who are going to help our military. Senator Mitch McConnell is the person who can do that,” Jones said to loud applause.

Christian County is one of the biggest examples of how McConnell can do more for Kentucky.  McConnell has delivered:

• $214 million for projects at Fort Campbell.
• $800,000 for the completion of the Edward T. Breathitt Pennyrile Parkway.
• $200,000 for the Hopkinsville-Christian County Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force.
• $500,000 to assist St. Luke’s Free Clinic in Hopkinsville.
• Over $60 million in tobacco buyout funds for farmers.

The tour rolls again on Friday, when McConnell will head back to Eastern Kentucky to campaign with Congressman Hal Rogers.

U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell made a stop in Breckinridge County on Wednesday, while campaigning in Western Kentucky, where he spoke to supporters in Hardinsburg.

“The question in this election is: will Kentucky go to the back row, or will it continue to enjoy the privileges of having a Senator in leadership in Washington D.C.?” McConnell said.

While speaking to supporters gathered at the FFA Leadership Training Center Auditorium, Senator McConnell, who is the Republican leader of the U.S. Senate and only the second Kentuckian to lead his party, highlighted his work to secure a buyout for Kentucky's tobacco farmers, meaning that tobacco growers and quota holders in Breckinridge County will receive over $38 million over the length of the buyout.

McConnell’s bus tour, which kicked off on Monday, will make 62 stops and travel four thousand miles before it wraps up in two weeks. Senator McConnell also traveled to Grayson County on Wednesday.

State Senate President David L. Williams, 2nd Congressional District candidate Brett Guthrie and State Senator Carroll Gibson joined Senator McConnell in Hardinsburg and touted McConnell’s leadership in the Senate and how it benefits the people of Kentucky.

Williams said it was McConnell who can stop the worst ideas of the liberals in Washington and was the one man standing between America and Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.

“He’s got the guts and courage to stand up for us and do what’s right,” Williams said. “When they want to raise taxes and redistribute wealth, Senator McConnell is there to stand up for our values.”

Gibson said McConnell is able to use his position to deliver for Kentucky and represents pro-life, pro-second amendment, conservative Kentucky values in Washington, D.C.

“He fights for what we believe in,” Gibson said. “We know where McConnell stands and he will continue to work hard for the Commonwealth, and for Breckinridge County.”

Senator Mitch McConnell has launched several new television advertisements across Kentucky touting his record of accomplishment for our state.

“Who can do more for our state in the U.S. Senate?  I have a record of delivering for our communities, farmers, universities, and working families. My opponent’s election would relegate Kentucky to the back row of the U.S. Senate,” Senator McConnell said.  “Do we want to go to the back bench with no influence, or do we want Kentucky to have a seat at the table when major decisions are made?”  McConnell has asked voters in various campaign stops during his bus tour.

“He doesn’t care whether I’m a Democrat or Republican, he cares I’m a Kentuckian,” Henderson County Sheriff Ed Brady says in the ad, echoing the sentiments of others who say McConnell has stood up for farmers, veterans, and small businesses.

“I’m humbled to have the support of these Democrats, and I ask Democrats from across Kentucky to take a look at my record and make a decision based on who can do more for our state,” Senator McConnell said about the endorsements.  “Regardless of your partisan stripe, just think about what it has meant for our state to have a seat at the table when every decision is made.   I can assure you, when I am at that table, I am always working to advantage Kentucky, and the results of my efforts are clear.”

McConnell Bus Tour Rolls Through Eastern Kentucky on Day 2
Hundreds turn out to hear from McConnell, Rogers, Williams

Senator Mitch McConnell was joined by Congressman Hal Rogers today as the two made seven stops in Eastern Kentucky during McConnell’s campaign bus tour.  The two were joined by Kentucky Senate President David L. Williams and other local officials in Harlan, Bell, Knox and Whitley Counties.

Congressman Rogers told the crowd that they needed to do all they could to re-elect Senator McConnell, because if not re-elected, it would be the Kentucky taxpayer who will foot the bill for the Obama/Lunsford agenda of higher taxes.  He also called out Bruce Lunsford for ducking important issues in this campaign.

“I challenge Bruce Lunsford to tell Kentuckians where he stands on the Obama high tax, anti-second amendment, pro-choice agenda.  These are the things we need to know,” Rogers said.  “He won’t say, so I have to assume he’s right there with Obama and the liberal Washington crowd,” Rogers said.

“I know where Senator McConnell stands. He has been a true supporter of southeast Kentucky,” Rogers said.  “When I need a partner in the Senate to help me get funding for critical needs in Eastern Kentucky, I turn to Mitch.  Without him, it will be much harder to find the funds to improve our infrastructure, eradicate drugs, and clean up our beautiful environment.”

The future of Kentucky’s coal industry was a big topic at today’s events.  Rogers told supporters in Knox County to beware of the Obama/Biden/Lunsford anti-coal agenda.  Democratic Vice-Presidential nominee Joe Biden was recently overheard at a campaign stop telling a supporter an Obama/Biden administration would not allow any more coal plants in America.

“We need all the help we can get on coal and Mitch McConnell is solid with us,” Rogers said. “The other side, if you listen to them, is not going to be a friend of coal and we need Mitch there because of his experience to help us."

Senator Williams added: “The alternative to coal is darkness.  We need Mitch McConnell and Hal Rogers fighting for Kentucky’s coal industry in Washington.  The other side wants to shut down Kentucky’s coal jobs and low electricity rates, and we need Mitch and Hal there to stop them.”

State Senator Brandon Smith, who welcomed the crowd of over 150 at the day’s first stop in Harlan, reminded voters of the importance of keeping McConnell in the U.S. Senate.

“There are a lot liberals in Washington D.C. that want to pass laws that will hurt working families.  They want to raise taxes.  They want to make it harder for small businesses to create jobs.  And they don’t share our conservative Kentucky values,” Smith said. “The only thing standing in their way is Mitch McConnell, and we need him there protecting us from these terrible ideas.”

McConnell will head west for the next two days of the bus tour, which will make 62 stops and go four thousand miles over two weeks.
