I recently wrote an Op-Ed piece which appeared in Sunday’s Washington Post. The piece, entitled “Don’t Close It”, focuses on the complicated issue of what would happen if, as President Obama has suggested, we impose an artificial deadline for closing our detention center at Guantanamo Bay.

It’s quite simple. We shouldn’t compromise our national security to score political gains, no matter who is in office. Read the entire article here, and then call your elected representatives at (202) 224-3121 to let them know you oppose the closing of Guantanamo Bay.

Large Crowds Turn Out for McConnell Davis Rally

Sen. McConnell has been traveling all over Kentucky on the "Leadership Matters" bus tour. On Friday, he was joined by Congressman Geoff Davis for a rally in Maysville at the Rotary Park Clubhouse.

The noontime rally was attended by more than 150 people, according to Mason County Republican Party Treasurer Doug Hendrickson.

"We stopped counting at 150 (people)," Hendrickson said, noting local party officials had estimated 40 to 80 people would attend the rally.

"I think it's a testament to what Senator McConnell and Representative Davis have done for us in Kentucky and the Buffalo Trace area," Hendrickson said.

The standing room only crowd included men and women of all ages, veterans, and elected officials from not only Mason County, but neighboring counties.

During his remarks, McConnell discussed why so many liberal special interest groups are laser-focused on the Kentucky Senate race.

"Some of you are wondering why I'm having such a race," McConnell said, acknowledging the close race between he and Lunsford. He said the difference between now and his last bid for re-election six years ago, is the result of the confidence his Republican colleagues put in him by selecting him as minority leader. That has made him a target of such organizations as MoveOn.org and "the most disliked Republican among lobby groups and outside forces," even more so than the party's presidential nominee McCain.

"I'm damn proud of that," McConnell said.

McConnell said if he loses to Lunsford, the state will "immediately see a reduction" in funding coming from the federal government because Lunsford will be a "rookie" senator with little chance of reaching the level of seniority of McConnell. That senior status enabled McConnell to bring $500 million in federal funding into Kentucky last year alone, he said.

In closing, McConnell asked supporters to realize their vote does make a difference and to work over the next days to reach out to others in the community and encourage their votes.
"We are really representing your aspirations, your hopes for you, your children and your grandchildren." McConnell said.

Bruce Lunsford owns 11 homes in 6 states. Keep that in mind as you watch movie star Ashley Judd at a campaign rally for Bruce Lunsford.

Huge crowds greet the two leaders who deliver for EKY

Prestonsburg, KY – U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell and Congressman Hal Rogers campaigned together in London, Mt. Vernon, Hazard, and wrapped up the day here at the Big Sandy Regional Airport as the campaign bus tour again rolled through Eastern Kentucky.

While speaking to supporters at events during the day, Senator McConnell talked about the importance of including coal in America's energy plan.

“America can't be energy independent without relying on Kentucky coal,” McConnell said. “That's why I supported a number of policy initiatives that encourage the development of clean coal and coal to liquids technology.”

McConnell offered an amendment, the American Energy Production Act, which would require the development and use of coal as a liquid transportation fuels; cosponsored Senator Bunning's Coal to Liquid Fuel Energy Act; and extended tax incentives for clean coal technology, including those needed to build coal-to-liquid refineries.

McConnell also used his clout on the Senate Appropriations Committee to bring home funding for a variety of research projects in Kentucky to help make greater use of our abundant coal resources, including $4.2 million for the University of Kentucky's Military Fuels Research Program to research ways to use clean coal fuels to run military vehicles, $2 million for the University of Kentucky Consortium for Fossil Fuel Science (CFFS) to develop technology to produce clean transportation fuel from resources, such as coal, and $2.4 million for the UK Center for Advanced Separations Technology (CAST). UK is one of seven schools in the CAST consortium, which researches ways to develop new mining technologies to make mining in Kentucky competitive, efficient, and environmentally friendly.

Congressman Hal Rogers and State Senate President David Williams joined McConnell at today's stop and touted his leadership in the Senate and its benefits to the people of Kentucky.

Rogers told the crowd that McConnell has worked to ensure Kentucky’s coal industry is kept on the forefront of national energy legislation.

“We need all the help we can get on coal and Mitch McConnell is solid with us,” Rogers said. “The other side, if you listen to them, is not going to be a friend of coal and we need Mitch there because of his experience to help us."

State Senator Tom Jensen kicked things off in London before a huge, standing room only crowd. He welcomes the crowd by asking: “Who here is excited to send Mitch McConnell back to Washington?” The crowd responded with a roar.

Rogers continued to stoke the enthusiasm of the crowd by talking about the good work he and McConnell do together in Washington for Eastern Kentucky.

“The longer Mitch McConnell has been there, the more respect and admiration he has earned. And with his leadership position, he has been able to do more and more for us here in eastern Kentucky,” Congressman Rogers said. “I'm proud to have a partner who works hard for eastern Kentucky, who has such talent and character, like Mitch McConnell.”

At the Kentucky Country Music Hall of Fame in Rockcastle County, another large crowd heard from McConnell and State Representative Danny Ford, who talked about values and the need for a conservative leader in the U.S. Senate who stands up for Kentucky.

“Mitch McConnell is a bulwark for the conservative cause – Pro-life. Pro-second amendment,” Ford said. “He protects our values in Washington and we need him there for another six years.”

During this year's campaign, Senator McConnell has been endorsed by the Kentucky State Lodge Fraternal Order of Police, the National Vietnam & Gulf War Veterans Coalition, the National Right to Life and Kentucky Right to Life, the National Rifle Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) PAC.

In Hazard, Democrat Mayor Bill Gorman endorsed Senator McConnell for reelection. Before a crowd of 200, he honored U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, Senator McConnell’s wife, by giving her a key to the city and naming her a “Duchess of Hazard.”

When McConnell stepped up to the podium, he said that he knew Perry County is mostly Democrat by registration, but that he knew there are conservative democrats in Eastern Kentucky who should rally to his cause on Election Day.

“Your vision of Kentucky is my vision. The liberal democrat ticket does not represent your values,” McConnell said. “I heard even Hillary Clinton might be coming to Hazard this weekend. Well, let's send her a message on Tuesday: Perry County is going for Mitch McConnell!”

During today’s bus tour stops, two public polls were released showing McConnell with a lead and momentum heading in to the final weekend. The Courier-Journal Bluegrass Poll showed McConnell with a five point lead, while the Rasmussen showed McConnell ahead by seven points. A few days ago the Herald-Leader also showed McConnell leading Bruce Lunsford.

“Even the most unfriendly sources show Senator McConnell leading and with momentum as we approach Election Day,” said McConnell campaign manager Justin Brasell of the Kentucky newspaper polls.

The bus tour concludes tomorrow with several stops in the Fourth Congressional District. At its completion, McConnell will have made 62 stops in two weeks.

McConnell was in eastern Kentucky visiting with voters in London and Hazard. McConnell also stopped by the Big Sandy Regional Airport for a rally with local supporters. McConnell supporters turned out in droves to hear the Senior Senator from Kentucky talk about all he's done for the state.

He's asking those supporters to work hard in the next few days to ensure he's re-elected next Tuesday.

"We're surging, have a bigger lead than we had earlier and heading toward the finish line in first place," McConnell said.

Cite His Strong Leadership and Commitment to Kentucky

Louisville, KY - U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell received the endorsements of nine major newspapers across Kentucky, who urged their readers to re-elect Senator McConnell because of his effective leadership, knowledge and responsiveness to the needs of Kentuckians.

The Paducah Sun, the Daily News in Bowling Green, Kentucky New Era in Hopkinsville, the Glasgow Daily Times, Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer, The Advocate Messenger in Danville, The Kentucky Enquirer in northern Kentucky, the Ledger-Independent in Maysville and the Daily Independent in Ashland have all come out in support of Senator McConnell.

“I am proud that these papers looked at my record of delivering for Kentucky, along with my leadership in the Senate, and decided it was something that they, and all of Kentucky, can support,” Senator McConnell said.

The Paducah Sun endorsement stressed how important it was to not only Kentucky, but to the future direction of this country, to have Senator McConnell’s continued leadership in the United States Senate.

“…We believe that Sen. McConnell’s service to Kentucky and specifically to our part of the state during his 24-year tenure, standing alone, merits his return to the Senate,” The Paducah Sun wrote. “No one has worked harder over the past two decades to advance the interests of the economy and the people of far western Kentucky than Mitch McConnell.” Click here to view the full endorsement.

The Daily News supports McConnell’s re-election, noting he “has effectively used his seniority and leadership positions to bring millions of our tax dollars back to Kentucky.”

“McConnell has proved to be a worthy advocate for Kentucky over the past 24 years in the Senate. He understands the needs and wants of his constituents and he delivers,” the Daily News wrote. Click here to view the full endorsement.

Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer recognized Senator McConnell’s status in the Senate and “his reputation as a smart, highly skilled politician on the Republican side, reflects well on Kentucky.”

“McConnell’s presence on the national stage and his reputation as one of the few people who actually call the shots on a day-to day basis in the Senate, and thereby the federal government, brings positive recognition to Kentucky,” the paper stated. Click here to view the full endorsement.

The Advocate Messenger said it was now, more than ever, the state and country need Senator McConnell’s “strong, experienced, knowledgeable leadership.”

Their endorsement stated “Kentucky would be giving up something terribly important on today’s political scene if it lost McConnell.” Click here to view the full endorsement.

The Kentucky Enquirer echoed the sentiments of the other endorsements, saying “McConnell’s position as Minority Leader puts him in the middle of virtually every issue in Congress. That will be especially important in the coming term as Congress grapples with energy policy and the nation’s crumbling highway infrastructure.” Click here to view the full endorsement.

The Ledger-Independent not only noted Senator McConnell’s leadership, but his responsiveness to the needs and concerns of all Kentuckians stating. “Senator McConnell has always been aware of and reactive to the needs of northeastern Kentucky. …He knows the challenges we face moving forward.”

“Federal grants obtained with McConnell's support have meant a great deal to those of us who live in the small towns of the Buffalo Trace, and McConnell's keen understanding of the farm economy has supported our efforts to move forward in an area once absolutely dependent on the tobacco crop,” the paper wrote. Click here to view the full endorsement.

The Daily Independent in Ashland said seniority is the key to power in Congress, especially for small states like Kentucky.

“There is one compelling reason why Kentucky voters should re-elect Mitch McConnell to a fifth six-year term in the U.S. Senate: Clout,” the Daily Independent wrote. Click here to view the full endorsement.

The Glasgow Daily Times said McConnell probably could work exclusively on national and global issues, but he does an amazing job of staying in touch with and involved with Kentucky.

“In red-state Kentucky, he represents our values, our traditions and our way of life,” the paper wrote. Click here to view the full endorsement.

The Kentucky New Era in Hopkinsville believes that McConnell’s record of helping the state is remarkable.

“For the Pennyrile region alone, his assistance in getting help for Fort Campbell has made life better for the thousands of military who call the region home,” the paper wrote. “He has helped bring millions in aid to the state, and he has some fresh ideas of his own to continue to help the state and to jump-start the economy.” Click here to view the full endorsement.

Even the liberal Courier-Journal in Louisville praised Senator McConnell's leadership and wrote, “The incumbent, Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell, is an estimable figure -- highly skilled in the political and legislative arts, knowledgeable, experienced and powerful. He argues that as Republican leader of the Senate, he has attained influence that is rare for a Kentuckian in Washington. The state, he insists, is the beneficiary of his accomplishments.” They added, “Sen. McConnell deserves praise for his leadership in the recent bipartisan passage of a financial rescue plan. We wish Mr. Lunsford, who avoids a direct answer as to whether he would have supported the bill, recognized the importance of quick action.”

McConnell Hits Second District with Guthrie on Bus Tour

U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell found large crowds waiting in Warren, Allen, Barren, Hart, Nelson, and Shelby Counties as his statewide bus tour rolled through the Second Congressional District on Wednesday. With the exception of Allen, Second Congressional District candidate Brett Guthrie joined McConnell on the stump, along with former Kentucky Adjutant General Donald Storm, Kentucky Senate President David L. Williams, state senate candidate David Givens, state house candidate Shawn McPherson, and a host of local officials at each stop.

Guthrie introduced McConnell in Bardstown, calling McConnell a “giant” in local and national politics.

“He delivers. He matters. He puts Kentucky at the head of the class in Washington," Guthrie said.

McConnell said Guthrie was “perfect to represent the Second District,” noting his background as a veteran and job creator. State Representative David Floyd said both McConnell and Guthrie deserve support because of their conservative values and character.

"Two great leaders are here with us today: Mitch McConnell and Brett Guthrie. And they are going to Washington to serve us and represent our values," Floyd said at the Farmer’s Market Pavilion in Bardstown.

In Allen County, Clerk Beverly Calvert talked about a project McConnell delivered that has spurred economic development: $948,000 for the Allen County Barren River Boat Ramp, which enhances recreation areas adjacent to the ramp for future economic development and tourism promotion.

"He takes our call and delivers for us," Calvert said. "For instance, he got critical funding for a boat ramp which is leading to economic development. His clout has directly improved the economy in Allen County."

A large and boisterous crowd closed out the night in Simpsonville. State Senators Gary Tapp and Ernie Harris were on hand to support the ticket, and State Representative Brad Montell told the crowd to get out and work between now and Election Day.

“We have a big day coming up, and we need all of you out there fighting for Senator McConnell. His values are your values,” Montell said.

Opening the morning in Bowling Green, an overflow crowd at the Victory Headquarters heard from State Representative Jim Decesare and Guthrie, who underscored the need for a strong grassroots push in the final weekend.

“We need to run up the score here in Warren County, and it looks like we have the grassroots support to do it,” Guthrie said.

General Storm continued on the tour, telling voters that no leader in Washington has done more to equip soldiers in battle, take care of wounded warriors, and take care of military families than Senator McConnell. Storm noted that Senator McConnell’s strong record on veterans issues led the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Political Action Committee (PAC) endorsed him for re-election.

“Nobody has done more to take care of veterans and their families than the senior senator right here,” General Storm said at the event.

Senate President Williams took direct aim the Washington liberals who look to drag our country to the far left.

“They want to raise your taxes. They want to cut the military. If you are a conservative – Democrat or Republican – join us in stopping this fringe left wing agenda before it gets started,” Williams said. He added: “We need Mitch McConnell in Washington to save Nancy Pelosi and the rest of that bunch from their worst inclinations.”

Noting the huge crowds at each stop today, McConnell charged the crowd with a simple task, beginning with those assembled in Bowling Green: "Inconvenience yourself for the next six days. Do more than what you'd ordinarily do. Not for me but for you, and your children, and your grandchildren. Let's go out there in Warren County next Tuesday and beat my opponent like a drum!” McConnell said.

The McConnell bus tour continues in Eastern Kentucky on Thursday. After the completion of the tour on Friday night, the bus will have traveled 4,000 miles and made 62 stops.

George J's The Place To Be

On Wednesday, U.S. Senator McConnell and the Leadership Matters bus tour rolled into George J's in Glasgow, were he was greeted by nearly 100 supporters.

About 85 people were on hand to greet the four-term senator, including local Republican officeholders Judge-Executive Davie Greer, County Clerk Pam Browning, and County Attorney Jeff Sharp. Barren County was once a Democratic stronghold, but it's trended Republican in recent years and McConnell has carried it in each of his races.

Barren County Sheriff Chris Eaton joined McConnell supporters, thanking him for working hard for the people of Barren County.

But it was a Democrat who made news – news for McConnell, who thanked Sheriff Chris Eaton for his support. Later Eaton said it's true – he supports McConnell because of a $233,000 grant secured by McConnell for Eaton's office to upgrade its computer and communications equipment.

"That money won't benefit Republicans or benefit Democrats," Eaton said. "It's going to help the people of Barren County."

McConnell made just that pitch to the crowd inside George J's – his position as Leader of the Republican Caucus in the Senate gives him influence and clout which he can use for Kentucky's benefit. And Lunsford, only a couple of years younger than McConnell, won't have time to build that kind of seniority and clout, McConnell said.

"He's got no chance whatever to be in the position I'm in on your behalf," McConnell said. Electing Lunsford will be "a bad trade" for Kentucky, he said.

U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell told Calloway County supporters Tuesday afternoon that if his Democratic opponent wins, the state would be giving up his clout and influence as the leader of the Senate Republicans.

McConnell, who spoke at the county's GOP headquarters downtown, became the Senate minority leader after Democrats secured a one-seat majority two years ago. After speeches by his wife, U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao, State Sen. Ken Winters and State Senate President David Williams, McConnell said his leadership position gives him enormous influence and allowed him to bring $500 million in federal money back to the state last year alone.

Elizabethtown, KY – U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell made five more stops on his statewide bus tour today, hitting Ballard, McCracken, Graves, Calloway, and Hardin Counties. McConnell was again joined by former Kentucky Adjutant General Donald Storm and State Senate President David L. Williams, as well as Congressman Ed Whitfield, State Senator Ken Winters, State Representative Steven Rudy, Secretary of State Trey Grayson, and Second Congressional District candidate Brett Guthrie. Well over 100 people braved the cold weather to wrap up the night in Elizabethtown. McConnell touted his work on behalf of Hardin County, including $130 million for improvements and training at Fort Knox.

“I am here to tell you that Ft. Knox is here to stay,” McConnell said.

General Storm continued to explain why the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) PAC has endorsed Senator McConnell. Storm said McConnell has stood up for soldiers, veterans, and their families time and again.

“Nobody has done more to take care of veterans and their families than the senior senator right here," General Storm said during the event.

In Paducah, Iraq War Veteran Robbie Doughty, who was badly injured in battle, praised McConnell’s efforts to help him personally.

“Veterans have a friend in Senator McConnell. We need him in Washington. You were there for me, and I am here for you,” Doughty said.

Learn more about Robbie’s story by visiting:
http://www.kentuckyheroes.com/site/c.hrLOK0PFLqF/b.3092397/

McConnell’s stop in Paducah found Mayor Bill Paxton explaining just what McConnell’s leadership has meant for his town.

“When we have needs, Senator McConnell listens and delivers,” Mayor Paxton said. “I understand what Senator McConnell has done for Paducah and McCracken County, and we need him in there for another six years.”

Paxton highlighted McConnell’s work to bring home over $9 million for the development of the Paducah Waterfront, $6.4 million for upgrades to the Paducah Area Transit System, $4.8 million for runway improvements at the Barkley Regional Airport, $550,000 for the Paducah River Heritage Museum and over $250 million for construction at the Kentucky Lock.

Another big topic in Paducah: the USEC plan and energy policy. McConnell worked to ensure language in the FY09 Defense Appropriations bill, which was signed into law, to restrict Russian uranium imports. This provision will protect the Paducah plant from Russian uranium imports – keeping the 1,100 jobs at the USEC facility in place.

“Senator McConnell has fought for years for the cleanup and health monitoring activities at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant. None of this would have happened without Senator McConnell's leadership,” Mayor Paxton added.

McConnell and Mayor Paxton discussed the future of nuclear energy and coal and its impact on Paducah.

“We have the potential here to be the energy capitol of the country. We have coal resources. We can do nuclear. And Mayor Paxton and I believe there's a big role for Paducah to play,” McConnell said. Paxton added that McConnell had been tremendously helpful in the town’s efforts to lure a clean coal project to the region.

Opening the morning in Ballard County, State Representative Steven Rudy welcomed visitors to his family’s farm store in Kevil. It was a cold morning, but several dozen showed their support for the McConnell-Rudy ticket.

“Forty-nine other states would love to have a senator with as much integrity, character, and ability as we do,” Rudy said. “For western Kentucky, we can't do any better than to have Ed Whitfield and Mitch McConnell fighting for us in Washington. They have delivered for us time and time again.”

Congressman Ed Whitfield also joined Senator McConnell in Ballard County, and reiterated the importance for West Kentucky to have a solid one-two punch in Congress.

“I've served alongside Mitch and have seen what he can do for Kentucky. He's a strong advocate for us, and a great partner for me as together we fight for Western Kentucky values in Congress.”

State Senator Ken Winters was along for the ride in Graves and Calloway Counties. He fired up grassroots activists by telling them to get out and fight for their conservative values on Election Day.

“Senator McConnell is an important link between us and Washington. He is our voice, representing our values,” Senator Winters said.

On Wednesday, the McConnell Bus Tour rolls through several stops in the second congressional district, and will also stop in Allen County.

On Saturday, U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell stopped by the Boyle County Fairgrounds in Danville.

McConnell also recognized the importance of Boyle County's historic buildings and unique culture and the work he has done to support the preservation of that heritage, including securing $150,000 in historic preservation funds for McDowell House and $250,000 for the Brinton House near Perryville Battlefield.

McConnell's bus tour, which kicked off last Monday, will make 62 stops and travel 4,000 miles before it wraps up. McConnell also traveled to Fayette, Clark, Estill, Madison, Garrard and Casey counties on Saturday.

State Rep. Mike Harmon joined McConnell in Danville and touted McConnell's leadership in the Senate and how it benefits the people of Kentucky.

"Sen. McConnell has been extremely responsive to the constituents in my district," Harmon said. "When I call, he and his team swing into action on behalf of the people of Kentucky."

Harmon also told that crowd that it was McConnell who has protected America from the liberal agenda.

"We need Sen. McConnell in Washington fighting for us, and I'm proud to support him," Harmon said.

U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Secretary of State Tray Grayson, and Kentucky Senate President David L. Williams traveled through Central Kentucky on Saturday making seven stops in Fayette, Clark, Madison, Estill, Garrard, Boyle, and Casey Counties. At each stop, they were joined by local officials who attested to McConnell’s leadership on delivering for their priorities, representing conservative values in Washington, and standing up for our nation’s veterans and law enforcement officers.

Winchester Mayor Ed Burtner and Clark County Sheriff Berl Perdue joined Senator McConnell and touted his leadership in the Senate and how it benefits the people of Kentucky.

“As a law enforcement officer, I'm proud of what Mitch McConnell has done for us,” Sheriff Perdue said. “And that's why he was endorsed by the Kentucky State Lodge Fraternal Order of Police.”

Mayor Burtner said McConnell was a friend of Winchester and Clark County.

“When it comes to veterans issues, Senator McConnell has been at the forefront,” Burtner said. “He's a true friend to veterans and we appreciate his leadership.”

During this year’s campaign, Senator McConnell has been endorsed by the Kentucky State Lodge Fraternal Order of Police, the National Vietnam & Gulf War Veterans Coalition, the National Right to Life and Kentucky Right to Life, the National Rifle Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) PAC.

In Madison County, McConnell talked about one of his signature priorities: “the safe and timely destruction of the more than 500 tons of chemical weapons at the Blue Grass Army Depot.

“I am committed to getting it done, and no freshman would be able to do that,” McConnell said. McConnell has already secured over $100 million for the safe elimination of the chemical weapons stored at the Blue Grass Army Depot (BGAD). In addition to these funds, McConnell introduced an amendment to the Defense Appropriation bill, which became law in December of last year, that set a deadline of 2017 for disposal of the stockpiles at BGAD.

Learn more about Senator McConnell’s work on behalf of the citizens of Madison County from Craig Williams, director of the Chemical Weapons Working Group:

McConnell and Grayson repeatedly stressed the importance of a strong grassroots campaign during Saturday’s trip. McConnell noted that money is pouring in from around the country to defeat him because he represents conservative values in Washington.

“Every liberal group in America is out to get me, and I sure am proud of that,” McConnell told a packed house at the Madison County Republican Party Headquarters in Richmond.

Kicking off the morning in Lexington, Grayson marveled at the huge, boisterous crowd.

"It's amazing to see this enthusiasm here in Fayette County," Grayson said to an overflow crowd at the Victory Headquarters. "We need Mitch McConnell in the U.S. Senate fighting for us, and we are going to send him back to Washington because of this outpouring of grassroots support. Everyone in this room knows Mitch McConnell can do more for Kentucky."

In Danville, McConnell continued the theme.

“My views are your views, and I am here for you. Today I am asking you to do something for our country. Get out there and round up every vote you can get. And on November 4, I want you to help me beat this guy like a drum,” McConnell told the enthusiastic crowd.

In Lancaster, Judge Executive John Wilson joined the tour and told the crowd that Senator McConnell “is really in touch with what’s happening in Garrard County.

“The last time I was up in Washington, it was kind of an unannounced visit, and Senator McConnell asked me 'how's everything up on Fuzzy Duck Road?'” Wilson said. “This is a man who knows our county well and is a strong leader who gets things done for all of Kentucky, and represents our values well in Washington, D.C.”

Garrard County has benefited greatly from McConnell’s work on the tobacco buyout, where farmers will received $37 million. All totaled, the counties McConnell visited Saturday will receive nearly $250 million in tobacco buyout funds.

Estill County Judge Executive Wallace Taylor welcomed a large crowd in Irvine on much the same note—Mitch McConnell is a responsive Senator who moves quickly to help people across the state.

"What a difference Senator McConnell has made in Estill County. He has supported our efforts to improve our fire departments and upgrade our equipment," Taylor said. "He represents us very well. I'm proud to call him our senator, and proud to call him my friend."

The bus tour resumes Monday when Senator McConnell heads back to Western Kentucky.

Day 5 finds McConnell speaking to large crowds

Senator Mitch McConnell wrapped up day of the Leadership Matters tour on Friday night in Bourbon County, after hitting Perry, Leslie, Clay, and Jackson Counties with Congressman Hal Rogers. The two continued their theme of how they work together to deliver for Eastern Kentucky.

Rogers said it was a tremendous honor having Senator McConnell elevated to become leader of his party in the U.S. Senate, but more importantly, it’s a great chance for Kentucky to have such a strong voice that can deliver for the Commonwealth in Washington D.C.

“Never has Mitch McConnell turned me down when I needed help delivering for eastern Kentucky,” Rogers said to an overflow crowd in Manchester. “He delivers.”

In Jackson County, McKee Mayor Dwight Bishop introduced Senator McConnell by touting his leadership in the Senate and how it benefits the people of Kentucky. Mayor Bishop named Tuesday, November 4 “Mitch McConnell Day” and presented McConnell with a key to the city.

“It's really good when you have upstanding people like Mitch McConnell there to help us out when we need it,’ Bishop said. “This is an important time for our country and Senator McConnell stands up to protect our country. I'm thankful he's there doing the right thing.”

On the way to the event at Opal’s in downtown McKee, Senator McConnell’s bus stopped at Robinson’s Grocery near the Clay/Jackson County line on Highway 421 where he and Congressman Rogers visited with store patrons.

In Leslie County, Hyden Mayor Lonnie Hendrix, County Clerk James Lewis and County Judge Executive Jimmy Sizemore joined the tour.

“It is so important that we keep Senator McConnell. If we elect someone else, that person will have no chance of amassing the kind influence Sen. McConnell has on behalf of the people of Kentucky,” Mayor Hendrix said. “Let's keep Mitch McConnell. He can do more for us.”

To open the day, McConnell was interviewed at WYMT-TV in Hazard, and will appear on the “Issues and Answers” public affairs show.

On Saturday, Secretary of State Trey Grayson and Kentucky Senate President David L. Williams are along for the ride through Central Kentucky, which kicks off in Lexington with a rally at 9:00 a.m.

Who's Paying for Attacks on Senator McConnell?

The Los Angeles Times exposes the "non-partisan" group attacking Senator Mitch McConnell.

Not surprisingly, the ad is funded by MoveOn.org, the same group who called General David Petraeus a traitor. MoveOn.org also opposed the war in Afghanistan following 9/11, and compared the President to Adolph Hitler.

Campaign Money Watch, the group that bills itself as a nonpartisan advocate for campaign finance reform, is attacking Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell.

The Washington-based group is spending almost $400,000 on the attack, which includes a tough new television ad and website.

In filing with the Federal Election Commission, Campaign Money Watch disclosed a new batch of donors paying for the attack on the Kentucky senator. Its biggest contributor was the liberal online advocacy group, MoveOn.org, which gave $400,000.

Campaign Money Watch received $130,000 from billionaire Jerome Kohlberg, a founder of the private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., and $30,000 from Communication Workers of America.

The ad advocates passage of the Fair Elections Now Act, which would spend $1 billion taxpayer dollars on publicly-financed elections. Where does Bruce Lunsford stand on this legislation? We’re assuming he’s in favor of spending your tax dollars on yard signs and bumper stickers and television attack ads since his liberal allies funding this partisan front group are attacking Senator McConnell on his behalf.

Congressman Hal Rogers Hits Radio Waves for Mitch McConnell

The McConnell Campaign has launched radio ads throughout Eastern Kentucky featuring Fifth District Congressman Hal Rogers, who has a simple message for voters: he needs Mitch McConnell in the U.S. Senate to help him deliver for Eastern Kentucky priorities.

“I urge you to reelect U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell. Why? Well, he has a lot of seniority to help us get things done for Eastern Kentucky. His opponent would be a freshman; they can’t help you. And he is a fighter for coal, and we need his help. Mitch is in a very powerful position and we would be foolish to squander that big advantage,” Rogers says in the radio spot.

McConnell’s bus tour has hit Eastern Kentucky twice during the first week, and Congressman Rogers campaigned with Senator McConnell every step of the way.

“I challenge Bruce Lunsford to tell Kentuckians where he stands on the Obama high tax, anti-second amendment, liberal Washington agenda. These are the things we need to know,” Rogers said at various rallies. “He won’t say, so I have to assume he’s right there with Obama and the liberal Washington crowd,” Rogers said.

“I know where Senator McConnell stands. He has been a true supporter of Eastern Kentucky,” Rogers said. “When I need a partner in the Senate to help me get funding for critical needs, I turn to Mitch. Without him, it will be much harder to find the funds to build our roads, eradicate drugs, and clean up our environment.”

The future of Kentucky’s coal industry was a big topic at several campaign events. Rogers told supporters at a rally Knox County earlier in the week to beware of the Obama/Biden/Lunsford anti-coal agenda. Democratic Vice-Presidential nominee Joe Biden was recently overheard at a campaign stop telling a supporter an Obama/Biden administration would not allow any more coal plants in America.

“We need all the help we can get on coal and Mitch McConnell is solid with us,” Rogers said. “The other side, if you listen to them, is not going to be a friend of coal and we need Mitch there to fight with me to protect and advance Kentucky’s coal communities."

Day 4 sees McConnell win debate, hit five more counties

U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell won another debate with Bruce Lunsford at Kentucky Dam Village before stopping in Crittenden, Caldwell, Trigg, Christian, and Butler Counties on his statewide bus tour. McConnell was joined by local officials at each stop who attested to McConnell’s leadership and ability to deliver for Kentucky.

At the debate, Lunsford notably declared his opposition to clean, safe nuclear power as a part of a comprehensive approach to achieve energy independence while McConnell said he supported it. McConnell has been a tireless champion for the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant, one of the region’s biggest employers, and firmly supports a comprehensive energy strategy to eliminate our nation’s dependence on foreign oil.

Lunsford also affirmed that he opposed terrorist surveillance legislation supported by an overwhelming bipartisan majority in Congress, including both presidential candidates. Time and again during the debate, Lunsford showed he was out of touch with the values of most Kentuckians.

Crittenden County Judge Executive Fred Brown summed up McConnell’s ability to do more for Kentucky during a rally in Marion.

“There's not a major project in this community that doesn't have Senator McConnell’s fingerprints on it...and we are thankful for his leadership,” Brown said. McConnell has secured over $1 million in critical funding for Crittenden County projects.

In Hopkinsville, state senate Candidate Tom Jones, a retired Lieutenant Colonel, touted McConnell’s ability to deliver for military families and communities.

“This is a critical time for our country. We need leaders who are going to help our military. Senator Mitch McConnell is the person who can do that,” Jones said to loud applause.

Christian County is one of the biggest examples of how McConnell can do more for Kentucky. McConnell has delivered:

• $214 million for projects at Fort Campbell.
• $800,000 for the completion of the Edward T. Breathitt Pennyrile Parkway.
• $200,000 for the Hopkinsville-Christian County Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force.
• $500,000 to assist St. Luke’s Free Clinic in Hopkinsville.
• Over $60 million in tobacco buyout funds for farmers.

The tour rolls again on Friday, when McConnell will head back to Eastern Kentucky to campaign with Congressman Hal Rogers.

McConnell Bus Tour Stop: Breckinridge County

U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell made a stop in Breckinridge County on Wednesday, while campaigning in Western Kentucky, where he spoke to supporters in Hardinsburg.

“The question in this election is: will Kentucky go to the back row, or will it continue to enjoy the privileges of having a Senator in leadership in Washington D.C.?” McConnell said.

While speaking to supporters gathered at the FFA Leadership Training Center Auditorium, Senator McConnell, who is the Republican leader of the U.S. Senate and only the second Kentuckian to lead his party, highlighted his work to secure a buyout for Kentucky's tobacco farmers, meaning that tobacco growers and quota holders in Breckinridge County will receive over $38 million over the length of the buyout.

McConnell’s bus tour, which kicked off on Monday, will make 62 stops and travel four thousand miles before it wraps up in two weeks. Senator McConnell also traveled to Grayson County on Wednesday.

State Senate President David L. Williams, 2nd Congressional District candidate Brett Guthrie and State Senator Carroll Gibson joined Senator McConnell in Hardinsburg and touted McConnell’s leadership in the Senate and how it benefits the people of Kentucky.

Williams said it was McConnell who can stop the worst ideas of the liberals in Washington and was the one man standing between America and Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.

“He’s got the guts and courage to stand up for us and do what’s right,” Williams said. “When they want to raise taxes and redistribute wealth, Senator McConnell is there to stand up for our values.”

Gibson said McConnell is able to use his position to deliver for Kentucky and represents pro-life, pro-second amendment, conservative Kentucky values in Washington, D.C.

“He fights for what we believe in,” Gibson said. “We know where McConnell stands and he will continue to work hard for the Commonwealth, and for Breckinridge County.”

Senator Mitch McConnell has launched several new television advertisements across Kentucky touting his record of accomplishment for our state.

“Who can do more for our state in the U.S. Senate? I have a record of delivering for our communities, farmers, universities, and working families. My opponent’s election would relegate Kentucky to the back row of the U.S. Senate,” Senator McConnell said. “Do we want to go to the back bench with no influence, or do we want Kentucky to have a seat at the table when major decisions are made?” McConnell has asked voters in various campaign stops during his bus tour.

You can view all of the new ads below:

The McConnell Campaign launched a new ad featuring Democrats from across Kentucky endorsing Senator McConnell for reelection.

“He doesn’t care whether I’m a Democrat or Republican, he cares I’m a Kentuckian,” Henderson County Sheriff Ed Brady says in the ad, echoing the sentiments of others who say McConnell has stood up for farmers, veterans, and small businesses.

“I’m humbled to have the support of these Democrats, and I ask Democrats from across Kentucky to take a look at my record and make a decision based on who can do more for our state,” Senator McConnell said about the endorsements. “Regardless of your partisan stripe, just think about what it has meant for our state to have a seat at the table when every decision is made. I can assure you, when I am at that table, I am always working to advantage Kentucky, and the results of my efforts are clear.”
