The Herald-Leader also had the following summary of the event:

Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell, whose home state of Kentucky is hosting the National Rifle Association's annual meeting, touted the second amendment and the role of the NRA while also taking a swipe at Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

McConnell said Obama's statement last month about rural voters in Pennsylvania being "bitter" and clinging to guns and religion was a moment of candor.

"He says it because that's what he really thinks," McConnell said. And here's what I think: he's dead wrong."

"When I hear that about nine out of ten NRA members show up to the polls on Election Day, I don’t think it means that gun owners are bitter. I think it shows that the spirit of freedom is alive among the millions of members of the NRA," he added.

McConnell spent much of his remarks praising the NRA and its staunch support for the Second Amendment throughout the nation's history.
