The Courier-Journal writes about Senator Mitch McConnell's latest TV ad. You can watch the ad below.
This is the latest in a series of ads that McConnell has run to show what he has done for Kentucky, including bringing millions of dollars to the University of Louisville's Health Sciences campus and working to get rid of the chemical weapons at Bluegrass Army Depot in Richmond.
In the ad, current and former workers at the plant give McConnell credit for helping workers who developed illnesses because they were exposed to radiation and other harmful compounds there.
McConnell spent years working to obtain funding to clean up environmental damage at the site, and he pushed for payments to those who became ill from working at the plant and their families and fully funding an early cancer screening program -- opposing the Bush Administration.
The Bush administration had proposed in 2002 slashing funding to $1 million for the program, which sends a mobile screening unit to sites in Paducah; Oak Ridge, Tenn.; and Portsmouth, Ohio. McConnell won $5.2 million for the program.
