McConnell Bus Tour Rolls Through Eastern Kentucky on Day 2
Hundreds turn out to hear from McConnell, Rogers, Williams

Senator Mitch McConnell was joined by Congressman Hal Rogers today as the two made seven stops in Eastern Kentucky during McConnell’s campaign bus tour. The two were joined by Kentucky Senate President David L. Williams and other local officials in Harlan, Bell, Knox and Whitley Counties.
Congressman Rogers told the crowd that they needed to do all they could to re-elect Senator McConnell, because if not re-elected, it would be the Kentucky taxpayer who will foot the bill for the Obama/Lunsford agenda of higher taxes. He also called out Bruce Lunsford for ducking important issues in this campaign.
“I challenge Bruce Lunsford to tell Kentuckians where he stands on the Obama high tax, anti-second amendment, pro-choice agenda. These are the things we need to know,” Rogers said. “He won’t say, so I have to assume he’s right there with Obama and the liberal Washington crowd,” Rogers said.
“I know where Senator McConnell stands. He has been a true supporter of southeast Kentucky,” Rogers said. “When I need a partner in the Senate to help me get funding for critical needs in Eastern Kentucky, I turn to Mitch. Without him, it will be much harder to find the funds to improve our infrastructure, eradicate drugs, and clean up our beautiful environment.”
The future of Kentucky’s coal industry was a big topic at today’s events. Rogers told supporters in Knox County to beware of the Obama/Biden/Lunsford anti-coal agenda. Democratic Vice-Presidential nominee Joe Biden was recently overheard at a campaign stop telling a supporter an Obama/Biden administration would not allow any more coal plants in America.
“We need all the help we can get on coal and Mitch McConnell is solid with us,” Rogers said. “The other side, if you listen to them, is not going to be a friend of coal and we need Mitch there because of his experience to help us."
Senator Williams added: “The alternative to coal is darkness. We need Mitch McConnell and Hal Rogers fighting for Kentucky’s coal industry in Washington. The other side wants to shut down Kentucky’s coal jobs and low electricity rates, and we need Mitch and Hal there to stop them.”
State Senator Brandon Smith, who welcomed the crowd of over 150 at the day’s first stop in Harlan, reminded voters of the importance of keeping McConnell in the U.S. Senate.
“There are a lot liberals in Washington D.C. that want to pass laws that will hurt working families. They want to raise taxes. They want to make it harder for small businesses to create jobs. And they don’t share our conservative Kentucky values,” Smith said. “The only thing standing in their way is Mitch McConnell, and we need him there protecting us from these terrible ideas.”
McConnell will head west for the next two days of the bus tour, which will make 62 stops and go four thousand miles over two weeks.
