U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell made stops in Whitley County on Tuesday, while campaigning in Eastern Kentucky, where he spoke to hundreds of voters in Williamsburg.

“The question in this election is: will Kentucky go to the back row, or will it continue to enjoy the privileges of having a Senator in leadership in Washington D.C.?” McConnell said.

While speaking to supporters gathered at the University of the Cumberlands, Senator McConnell highlighted his work for the Daniel Boone National Forest, for both counter drug operations, including the eradication of thousands of marijuana plants growing in the forest, as well as land acquisition.

Senator McConnell said he has worked over the years to secure $11 million for the continued purchase of land within the forest and $41 million for marijuana eradication and counter drug operations in eastern Kentucky.

McConnell’s bus tour, which kicked off on Monday, will make 62 stops and travel four thousand miles before it wraps up in two weeks. Senator McConnell also traveled to Bell, Knox, and Harlan counties on Tuesday.

Congressman Hal Rogers and State Senate President David L. Williams joined Senator McConnell in Williamsburg and touted McConnell’s leadership in the Senate and how it benefits the people of Kentucky.

Rogers told the crowd that they needed to do all they could to re-elect Senator McConnell, because if not re-elected, it would be the Kentucky taxpayer who will foot the bill for the Obama/Lunsford agenda of higher taxes.

“I challenge Bruce Lunsford to tell Kentuckians where he stands on the Obama high tax, anti-second amendment, pro-choice agenda.  These are the things we need to know,” Rogers said.

“I know where Senator McConnell stands. He has been a true supporter of southeast Kentucky,” Rogers said.

Senator McConnell is the Republican leader of the U.S. Senate and only the second Kentuckian to lead his party in the Senate. He is able to use his position to deliver for Kentucky and takes pride in representing conservative, Kentucky values in Washington D.C.

Williams said it was McConnell who can stop the worst ideas of the liberals in Washington.

“When they want to raise taxes and redistribute wealth, Senator McConnell is there to stand up for our values,” Williams said.

Later that day, Senator McConnell stopped by the Whitley County GOP Headquarters in downtown Williamsburg.

Williams told the group, that there is one man standing between America and Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, and that was Mitch McConnell.

“He’s got the guts and courage to stand up for us and do what’s right,” Williams said.

“Freshman just don’t get anything done,” Rogers told the crowd of over 200. “If we lose Mitch McConnell, I’ll have no one to turn to get the PRIDE funding, the anti-drug funding, the water and sewer line funding. He means that much to eastern Kentucky.”
