Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell’s campaign released 4th quarter fundraising figures today that will soon be filed with the Federal Election Commission.
The McConnell campaign will report raising $10,889,516 through the end of 2007 for the 2008 election cycle – a new record for Kentucky. The campaign had $7,317,138 cash on hand as of December 31st. Ten months before Election Day 2008 the McConnell campaign’s cash on hand is more than the total spent by any previous U.S. Senate campaign in Kentucky. In the 4th quarter covering the three month period ending December 31, 2007, Senator McConnell raised $1,721,934.
For the year the McConnell campaign brought in more than $6.6 million, eclipsing in one year the previous fundraising record for a six-year cycle.
McConnell campaign representative Justin Brasell said the level of campaign activity has already increased dramatically this year: “With 306 days until Election Day, our prospective opponents would need to raise more than $35,000 per day each and every day between now and the election to collect what we’ve raised to date. Our fundraising pace is increasing significantly since we are now into the election year. We are very well organized, and we look forward to seeing who our opponent will be after an exciting primary in May.”
“The outpouring of support from so many Kentuckians who believe in Senator McConnell is truly gratifying,” added Brasell.
