It is not often that you see 72 Senators from both sides of the aisle agree on something, but that is exactly what happened this afternoon. Voting on an amendment offered by Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), the Senate openly and directly condemned the liberal, Washington-based MoveOn.org ad attacking Gen. David Petraeus and our troops which ran in the New York Times ten days ago.
Senator McConnell expressed his strong support for General Petraeus, whom he first met when the general was commander of the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, in a floor speech this afternoon. It is incredible that Americans Against Escalation in Iraq (AAEI), a group that claims to support our soldiers, would stand on the sidelines and not condemn this heinous character assassination. If that were not bad enough, this same group refuses to return the money it received from MoveOn.org. It seems hypocritical for AAEI to say it supports our troops, but keep funds given by a group that attacks the impeccable character of our nation’s top commander in Iraq.
