View Article  Radical left distorts Senator McConnell's record

Here is the latest attack from the radical left on Senator McConnell. According to FactCheck.org, Americans United for Change is a "liberal, labor-funded group." As usual they're distorting the record. This time it's so bad it's hard to even know where to start.

"Sadly, U.S. Mitch McConnell stood with President Bush and his health insurance industry backers over his most vulnerable North Carolina constituents - children." - AUC press release, 8/3/07

First, Senator McConnell is from Kentucky, not North Carolina.

Second, under Senator McConnell's Kids First alternative, Kentucky would have $161 million to spend on its SCHIP program in 2008. Under the bill Americans United supports, Kentucky would have only $138 million. Clearly Kentucky does better under the McConnell plan.

“But when it comes to providing basic health coverage for nation’s most vulnerable citizens – our children – he just can’t spare a nickel.”– AUC press release, 8/3/07

Third, Senator McConnell's Kids First alternative would increase SCHIP spending by $14 billion over the next five years, without raising taxes or increasing the deficit. That's more than a nickel, that's 280,000,000,000 nickels.

Finally, it's worth noting that AUC and their liberal supporters are also misleading people about their real intentions. Senator McConnell's proposal would support SCHIP's true goal of providing health coverage for low-income children. Others in Congress and outside groups like AUC want to use this program as a way to move away from private insurance and towards government-run health care. Their proposal would allow families in New York making over $80,000 annually to stop purchasing private insurance and get coverage from the government with our tax dollars. Even right now, 43% of what New Jersey spends on this program is for ADULTS.

Senator McConnell understands that we need health care reform, but he believes that discouraging the purchase of private insurance, raising taxes, and increasing the deficit is not the kind of reform we need.

Congress needs to finish its work to ensure we are doing everything possible to combat foreign terrorists.  I just taped this interview with the newspaper The Hill laying out why I think it is time to stop playing politics and finish our work.

Ronnie Ellis wrote this article yesterday following a conference call Senator McConnell and I had with Kentucky reporters.  Most of the questions focused on the Governor's race and Fancy Farm.  Ronnie correctly pointed out the attention that Senator McConnell gets from seemingly every left-wing radical group in the country by nature of his leadership position.  All these outside far left front groups would love to defeat Senator McConnell to take out the Republican Leader in the Senate.  As for me, I'm thrilled to be on board, and I look forward to taking the fight to them for the next 16 months.

FRANKFORT, Ky. —He says he’s taking nothing for granted and he’s clearly not waiting for a specific opponent to begin protecting his turf.

The Republican Leader of the U.S. Senate, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, hosted a conference call with Kentucky reporters Thursday to announce his campaign manager and grass roots director and tout his campaign re-election web site (www.teammitch.com).
