Senator Mitch McConnell visited Paducah on Wednesday, August 22nd, where he spoke to an overflow crowd at the Rotary Club before sitting down for an interview at the Paducah Sun. Afterwards, Senator McConnell visited with a few of the many cancer survivors who have benefitted from the mobile CT scan unit for which he secured funding.
Senator McConnell has long enjoyed a special relationship with Paducah. His work was critical to passage of the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA) in 2000 which compensated employees injured from their work at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant. Additionally, Senator McConnell has secured more than $750 million over the years for environmental cleanup at the plant and authored laws requiring the federal government to safely dispose of hazardous materials stored there.
