View Article  Senator McConnell Addresses the Fraternal Order of Police National Conference in Louisville

Bruce Schreiner of The Associated Press reports on the fantastic speech Senator McConnell delivered this morning to the Fraternal Order of Police National Conference in Louisville.  His remarks focused among other things on the McConnell-Bond bill to update the Foreign Intelligence Suveillance Act which recently passed the Senate with 60 votes.

"Now to me, the idea that we were supposed to extend the Bill of Rights to a bunch of noncitizens overseas, let alone terrorists, wasn't only dangerous, it was the height of stupidity," McConnell said.

WLKY's story mentions Senator McConnell's support for an Officers' Bill of Rights.

View Article  The Tax Cuts Are Working

The next time a liberal tells you the government needs more money, remind them of these facts that The Wall Street Journal highlighted over the weekend.  The tax cuts we passed in 2001 and 2003 continue to help improve our economy and create jobs.  I will continue fighting to make those tax cuts permanent and working to convince Americans that the Democrats' plans for the largest tax increase in history would be a huge mistake for our economy.

"Since Oct. 1, when the fiscal year began, the government has run a deficit of $157.3 billion, sharply narrower than the $239.6 billion in the year-earlier period.

The narrowing stems from a record $2.1 trillion of tax revenue that has flowed into the Treasury's coffers so far this year, up 7% from the year-ago period. Tax receipts for July totaled $170 billion, up 6.6% from July 2006." -- The Wall Street Journal, August 11, 2007

Human Events published a column today by Senator McConnell that focuses on a few of his legislative victories this year.  One of those was his own legislation to reform the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act which passed the Senate with broad bipartisan support.  Other successes have included Senator McConnell's efforts to block some terrible ideas from becoming law, such as reviving the Fairness Doctrine which would put an end to conservative talk radio as we know it today.

View Article  Fighting for Conservative Judges

George Will wrote a great column about our fight to get Leslie Southwick's appointment to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals approved in the Senate. The Democratic majority in the Senate continues to try to stall confirmation of conservative judges. Winning the vote in the Judiciary Committee to send Judge Southwick's nomination to the floor was a huge victory for us, and we will continue the fight to get more conservative judges approved this year.
