Yesterday Senator Bunning and Congressman Chandler joined me in my Capitol office to meet with Dale Ormond, the Army official with ultimate responsibility for the storage and management of our nation’s aging chemical weapons stockpile. Congressman Chandler, Senator Bunning and I are committed to demanding accountability from the Army on all issues related to safety at the Depot and doing everything we can to ensure the safety of the citizens who live in Madison County. In fact, Jim and Ben were both very supportive of the language I drafted which was recently signed into law which requires the elimination of the Richmond stockpile a full six years sooner than the army was seeking. In the end, other than the vigilant oversight of this aging stockpile the best thing we can do to protect our fellow citizens in central Kentucky is to eliminate these deadly relics as safely and as quickly as possible.
