No Surprise: Liberals Want It Both Ways
In a recent ad, Americans United for Change, a liberal union-backed group, claimed Leader McConnell opposed the recent attempts to expand SCHIP because he "sided with the big insurance companies." But in Saturday's Democrat radio address (.mp3, transcript), House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer defended the vetoed version by claiming "America's largest private insurance lobbying group" supported the bill. So to put it another way, Senator McConnell allegedly opposed the expansion of SCHIP because he sided with big insurance, thus disappointing one of the biggest supporters of the bill who would be... big insurance? Of course, this is all politics as usual. None of this has to do with children's healthcare. The real story here is that Senator McConnell authored the Kids First Act which would cover more Kentucky kids in 2008 than the bill vetoed by President Bush. Sounds like someone needs to get their story straight.
